The latest statistics shows 33.4 mill.  living with HIV.More than 15 million children are orphaned.

Children still account for 2.1 million of people living with HIV. A great challenge is the fact that more than 400,000 children a year are still being newly infected. Today we have the knowledge and services to prevent the transmission of HIV from mother to child, yet the majority of expectant mothers (55 percent)  do not receive such services.”

FIGHTING HIV and AIDS IN AFRICA: HELPING CHURCHES CATCH UP

The United Bible Societies World Assembly in 2000 responded to the threat of HIV/AIDS by a broadened mission statement which was contextualised by the Africa Area Board (AFAB) in 2002 in a strategic paper to read “to meet the needs of all people, especially those suffering from poverty, illiteracy, HIV and AIDS, political unrest, religious intolerance, genocide; and of helping people interact with the Word of God. Hence the Good Samaritan project initiative.
